About 15-20 minutes
Do I have to prepare in anyway?
Yes, you need to shave all your pubic hair, preferably with a razor and on the day of the procedure
Does it work straight away?
No. You have to wait 3 months and then perform a semen test to confirm the procedure worked
When can I have sex again?
After about a week
How long will I need off work?
If you don’t do any manual labour or heavy lifting you can go straight back to work
Otherwise you need to make sure you are not lifting more than 5kg for 7 days.
No riding motorbikes, pushbikes
Can I get a medical certificate?
Yes for up to 2 weeks
Can I drive home?
How experienced is the doctor?
Dr Cashion performs around 30 vasectomies a week at multiple locations around Australia
Does he use the open-ended technique?
Does he use the no-scalpel technique?
Does he use the no-needle technique?
No. This is not allowed in Australia
Does he use needles?
Yes, although they are very small and usually discomfort is minimal
Does he use a laser?
No. He uses a hyfrecator which is what most people are referring to when they ask about lasers
Will I be knocked out or given sedation?
No. 99% of patients do not require this and tolerate the procedure quite well
Do I need to stop any medications?
Yes. If you are on aspirin, warfarin or any other blood thinners you need to stop these at least 7 days prior to the procedure
I haven’t had any kids. Can I still get a vasectomy?
Yes (but men under 30 will need a councelling session and a waiting period before the procedure)
Does Dr Cashion do reversible vasectomies?
No. This is meant to be a permanent solution
Does Dr Cashion reverse vasectomies?
